Prince Edward Island ~ Garden of the Atlantic

Prince Edward Island is a province and one of the three Maritime Provinces.  Maritime means ‘of the sea’. Together, with Newfound and Labrador, these provinces make up the region of Atlantic Canada.

PEI is the smallest province of Canada in both land area and population, but it is the most densely populated. The people of PEI call themselves Islanders.

The backbone of the island economy is farming and it produces 25% of Canada’s potatoes.  The rich soil is a noticeably copper colour from it’s high iron content. Other important industries include the fisheries, tourism, aerospace, bio-science, IT, and renewable energy.

PEI is Canada’s 23rd largest island. It is fairly flat and you can drive it end to end in about 3 hours.
