Later, reconnecting with her roots upon returning home is a challenge.  Storm at Batoche, a picture book, follows a young boy who, lost in a snowstorm, encounters the compassionate Métis leader Louis Riel. As Long as the River Flows portrays the poignant final summer of a boy before he must attend residential school, highlighting the emotional toll of such separation.
